Why We Are the Watchers

E-mail Print PDF

There is an old saying I've heard:

"Who's watching the watchers?"

For a while I wondered about this. The government isn't. They're too busy watching us. They're too busy beating us into submission in so many ways. The corporations aren't. They're too busy buying up those with power. They're too busy making sure the regulations are in place to see to it that their businesses are not seriously threatened by entrepreneurs and other competition. The media isn't. It used to be they would. They used to investigate and report the corruption. Now they partake in it. They are as owned by the corporations as the government, and they are as worshipful of big government as any other good collectivist. The rules have been tossed. No one adheres to the rules they used to respect. No one any longer cares for individual rights. No one cares for freedom.

Except the individual. When his rights are violated, he cares. When he is subjected to the dictates of a faceless, uncaring bureaucracy, he cares. When he loses his job, or his business, or pays more than he can afford, or even loses his home and most everything he owns, he cares. Suddenly the government he once venerated isn't such a friendly entity. Suddenly he finds himself dependent on others. Suddenly he realizes that he's been conned and trapped by the system.

Most people know something is wrong, but they don't know what. They try to pin the blame on someone, but they don't know who. When they begin to realize that those they used to place their trust in have betrayed them, they may begin to look elsewhere for answers. That's why we are the watchers. It is up to you and I to become the media, to inform others of the importance of freedom. It is up to us to expose the corruption that rots the core of the system. We have to be the watchers, because no one else is doing it, no one else is going to do it. They are looking after their own best interest. It is up to me to look after my best interests and it is up to you to look after yours. In many areas our interests overlap. That's not so true when it comes to the wealthy ruling elite. Their interests are likely counter to ours, which is why so many of the laws and government mandates we are burdened with harm our endeavors to better ourselves. We are the watchers because we have to be.
